About

A room, a subject, and people willing to be honest

TheGrid Sessions has been running since 11 May 2019. What it does has grown; what it is for has not changed.

Relationship is currency

Why it exists

Most of what makes a life work runs through other people — the job you heard about, the collaborator who took the risk with you, the friend who told you the truth when it would have been easier not to. We treat those relationships as if they maintain themselves. They do not.

TheGrid Sessions started as a small set of conversations about that: what actually makes a relationship work, and what quietly erodes one. The conversations are rooted in universal principles of goodness and ethical behaviour, which sounds grand until you are in the room and it is simply a group of people being straight with one another.

It is a closed community, and that is deliberate. Honesty needs a room where people have met before. That is why membership is something you come to in person rather than something you buy.

What that has added up to

Attendance has always been recorded as “300+”, “1,100+” and so on, so each figure is a floor rather than a count. The year-by-year breakdown is on the homepage.

What we make

There is a studio behind the room

The events are documented by people in the community, which is why there is seven years of photography rather than seven years of phone footage. The same team works with member brands.

Companies sponsor the events too, which is how a good deal of it gets paid for. What sponsorship looks like.

  • Visual content

A team of creatives who shoot and cut the community's own events, and brands' work alongside them.

  • Storytelling

Episodes and series rather than posts. The photo-storytelling strand grew out of this.

  • Influencer marketing

Members who already have an audience, working with brands who want a real one.

How it is organised

Three groups

Not tiers of one thing. Each is a distinct room with its own purpose, and you can belong to more than one.
